The Introductction of Taurine

Taurine, chemically known as 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C2H7NO3S. Taurine is an amino acid converted from sulfur-containing amino acids, which is widely distributed in various tissues and organs of the body and exists in the interstitial and intracellular fluids mainly in a free state, and was first discovered in the bile of bulls and named after it, but it has been regarded as a non-functional metabolite of sulfur-containing amino acids for a long time. But it has long been considered as a non-functional metabolite of sulfur-containing amino acids. Taurine is a sulfur-containing amino acid in the animal body, but is not a component of protein.

Taurine is an organic osmotic regulator that is not only involved in the regulation of cell volume, but also provides the basis for the formation of bile salts and plays an important role in the modulation of intracellular free calcium concentration. Although taurine is a specialized amino acid not included in the protein group of substances, taurine is the most abundant amino acid in the brain, retina, and muscle tissue. Taurine has a wide range of applications, such as in the function of the central nervous system, cytoprotective effects, cardiomyopathy, renal insufficiency, abnormal development of renal function and retinal nerve damage.

The Application & Function of Taurine

Taurine can be widely used in medicine, food additives, fluorescent whitening agent, organic synthesis and other fields, also can be used as biochemical reagent, wetting agent, pH buffer and so on.
1. Promote infant brain tissue and intellectual development
Taurine in the brain content is rich, widely distributed, can obviously promote the growth and development of the nervous system and cell proliferation, differentiation, and was dose-dependent, in the brain nerve cell development process plays an important role. Research shows that the taurine content in the brain of preterm infants is significantly lower than that of full-term infants, because the cysteine sulfinic acid dehydrogenase (CSAD) in the body of preterm infants has not yet matured, and the synthesis of taurine is not enough to meet the body's needs, so it needs to be supplemented by breast milk. Breastmilk has a high content of taurine, especially in colostrum. Insufficient supplementation will result in slow growth and retarded mental development of young children. Taurine is closely related to the development of central nervous system and retina of toddlers and fetuses, and long-term simple milk feeding is easy to cause taurine deficiency.

2. Improve nerve conduction and visual function
Cats and nocturnal owls to prey on rats, the main reason is that the rat body is rich in taurine, more food can keep its sharp vision. If infants lack taurine, retinal dysfunction will occur. Long-term intravenous nutritional infusion of patients, if there is no taurine in the infusion, it will make the patient's retinal current map changes, only supplemental large doses of taurine to correct this change.

3. Prevent cardiovascular disease
Taurine in the circulatory system can inhibit platelet aggregation, reduce blood lipids, maintain normal blood pressure and prevent arteriosclerosis; cardiomyocytes have a protective effect, can be antiarrhythmic; to reduce blood cholesterol content has a special efficacy, can be used to treat heart failure.

4. Impact the absorption of lipids
The role of taurine in the liver is to combine with bile acid to form taurocholic acid, taurocholic acid is necessary for the absorption of lipids in the digestive tract. Taurocholic acid can increase the solubility of lipids and cholesterol, relieve bile obstruction, reduce the cytotoxicity of certain free bile acids, inhibit the formation of cholesterol stones, increase bile flow and so on.

5. Improve endocrine state, enhance human immunity
Taurine can promote the secretion of pituitary hormone, activate the function of pancreas, so as to improve the state of the endocrine system of the body, the body metabolism with beneficial regulation; and has the effect of promoting the enhancement of immunity and anti-fatigue.

6. Impact on sugar metabolism
Taurine can combine with insulin receptor to promote cellular uptake and utilization of glucose, accelerate glycolysis, reduce blood glucose concentration. Studies have shown that taurine has a certain hypoglycemic effect, and does not depend on increasing the release of insulin. The regulatory effect of taurine on cellular glucose metabolism may be realized through a post-receptor mechanism, which mainly relies on the interaction with insulin receptor proteins rather than directly binding to the pancreatic islet receptor.

7.Inhibit the development of cataract
Taurine has an important role in regulating crystal osmotic pressure and antioxidant, etc. In the process of cataract development, the content of sorbic acid in the lens increases, the osmotic pressure of the crystal increases, while the concentration of taurine as an important substance in regulating osmotic pressure decreases significantly, the antioxidant effect is weakened, and the proteins in the crystal undergoes over-oxidation, which causes or exacerbates the occurrence of cataract. Supplementation of taurine can inhibit the development of cataract.

8. Improve the function of memory
In the animal experimental research on the relationship between taurine and brain development, it is found that taurine can promote the learning and memory ability of rats. Supplementation of appropriate amount of taurine can not only improve the speed of learning and memory, but also improve the accuracy of learning and memory, and the anti-aging of the nervous system also has a certain role.

9.Maintain normal reproductive function
Normal reproductive function needs to be maintained with taurine. Some data confirm that when the taurine content in cat feed is lower than 0.101%, its reproductive function is poor, the rate of stillbirth, abortion and congenital defects increases, and the survival rate of cubs decreases. When the content is above 0.105%, normal reproductive function can be maintained.

10.Other functions
Taurine prevention and treatment of iron-deficiency anemia has obvious effect, it can not only promote intestinal absorption of iron, but also increase the stability of the red blood cell membrane; taurine is also the human intestinal bifidobacteria growth factors, optimize the structure of the intestinal bacterial group; also has antioxidant, aging effect; can promote acute hepatitis to return to normal; carbon tetrachloride poisoning has a protective effect, and can inhibit the serum glutamic acid and transaminase elevation. It has protective effect on carbon tetrachloride poisoning and can inhibit the increase of serum glutamic acid transaminase caused by it. Taurine has a protective effect on nephrotoxicity, taurine has a protective effect on cisplatin-induced changes in primary renal tubular epithelial cells in rabbits; taurine can be sedative, analgesic and anti-inflammatory, and has a preventive effect on frostbite, KCN poisoning and migraine.
