The Introductction of 4-Hydroxyacetanilide

 

4-Hydroxyacetanilide also known as Acetamino phen, which is shorted as APAP, it is the most commonly used non-anti-inflammatory antipyretic and analgesic, with antipyretic effect similar to aspirin, weaker analgesic effect, no anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic effect, and is the best variety of acetanilide drugs.

 

APAP is obtained from prismatic crystals in ethanol. Melting point 169-171℃, relative density 1.293(21/4℃). Soluble in ethanol, aceton* and hot water, insoluble in water, insoluble in petroleum ethe* and benzene. Odorless, bitter taste. Saturated aqueous solution pH 5.5-6.5.

 

APAPinhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins in the hypothalamic thermoregulatory center through the inhibition of cyclooxygenase and selectively inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins, resulting in peripheral vasodilation and sweating to achieve the effect of antipyretic, the strength of its antipyretic effect is similar to that of aspirin; through the inhibition of synthesis and release of prostaglandins, etc., it increases the pain threshold and plays an analgesic role, which is a peripheral analgesic, the effect is weaker than that of aspirin, and is only effective for mild and moderate It is a peripheral analgesic, weaker than aspirin, and only effective for mild to moderate pain. It has no significant anti-inflammatory effect.

 

The Application & Function of 4-Hydroxyacetanilide

APAP is suitable for the relief of mild to moderate pain, such as fever, headache, arthralgia, neuralgia, migraine and dysmenorrhea caused by cold.

 

APAP can be used in cases of allergy, intolerance or inappropriateness to aspirin, such as patients with chickenpox, hemophilia and other bleeding disorders (including cases treated with anticoagulation), as well as peptic ulcers and gastritis.
