The Introductction of Monensin Sodium Premix

Monensin is a polyether antibiotic, which was firstly isolated from the fermentation broth of Streptomyces cinnamonensis by Haney et al. in 1967. There are four main acidic components in this product, of which components A and B account for 85-95%, and components C and D account for very little (less than 1%).

Monensin Sodium Premix is formulated with defatted rice bran, cornstarch, rice husk powder and calcium carbonate. Monensin by the cinnamon ground Streptomyces (Streptomycescinnamonensis) fermentation by separation and extraction of production.

Properties: This product is a yellow-brown powder. Sodium Monensin is a whitish to light color powder.
Physical and chemical properties
Monensin sodium molecular formula: C36H61011Na, molecular weight: 692.8. This product is insoluble in water, soluble in methanol, ethanol, chloroform and other organic solvents. Melting point:267-269℃.
 

[Utility]
Antibiotic drug for chicken coccidiosis and beef cattle growth promotion. Good anticoccidial activity. No effect on negative bacteria; however, it has some inhibitory effect on staphylococci, bacilli, clostridia, streptococci, molds (Penicillium, Candida).

The Application & Function of Monensin Sodium Premix

[Mode of action]
Mainly acts on the early stage of coccidia. Normal Coccidioides sporozoites and schizonts have a high concentration of potassium ions and a low concentration of sodium ions in the cell (the opposite of extracellular), and the cell carries out the ion-osmotic pressure balance (external pumping of sodium and internal pumping of potassium) by reserving energy to stabilize the environment within the bacterium.
Monensin in order to interfere with the normal exchange of sodium and potassium ions within the coccidia cell, so that a large amount of sodium ions into the cell, resulting in high intracellular concentration of sodium ions, osmotic pressure rise, more water into the coccidia. In order to eliminate the excess sodium in the cell, the coccidia must use energy to pump out the excess sodium, eventually causing the limited energy to be used up; and then the sodium and potassium ion exchange interruption stops, the cell swells, deforms, ruptures, and disintegrates.
Monensin can affect the energy metabolism in the rumen of ruminants, improve rumen fermentation, increase the ratio of propionic acid to acetic acid, reduce volatile fatty acids to reduce methane production, and improve protein utilization efficiency. Therefore, it can significantly improve the feed utilization and growth promotion of ruminants.
 

[Safety]
No toxic reaction when administered at less than 121ppm. At 3-5 times (363-605ppm), intake decreased and weight gain decreased. Significantly increased mortality at 605 ppm, about 21%, but not at 363 ppm.
The LD50 is 2-3mg/kg, and the symptoms of poisoning are anorexia, dyskinesia, intermittent sweating and death. It may be toxic when used in combination with tamoxifen and troleandomycin.
 

[Residuals]
The ministry standard stipulates the rest period of 5 days. Tests have proved that: after 8 weeks of continuous feeding, stopping the drug for three days, all the tissues can not be detected drug components. Laying hens laying eggs during the suspension of the drug, generally only fed to 16 weeks.
Stability] Stability performance is good. In a variety of feed or stored separately for 3 months does not affect the activity,

[Method of use]
Mixed feeding. Chicken, add 90-110g per 1000kg of feed; beef cattle, 200-360mg per head per day.
