The Introductction of Chenodeoxycholic Acid :
Chenodeoxycholic acid is an organic compound with the chemical formula C24H40O4, which is a colorless needle like crystal. Almost insoluble in water, easily soluble in ethanol, glacial acetic acid, and slightly soluble in chloroform. The main effect is to reduce the saturation of cholesterol in the bile. After taking CDCA (when CDCA accounts for 70% of the bile salt in the bile), the lipids return to a micro colloidal state, and cholesterol is in an unsaturated state, causing the cholesterol in the stones to dissolve and fall off. High doses of CDCA (10-15mg/kg daily) can inhibit cholesterol synthesis and increase bile secretion in patients with gallstones, but the secretion of bile salts and phospholipids remains unchanged.
