The Introductction of Sodium deoxycholate
Sodium deoxycholate is a white crystalline powder. Similar to bile odor. Strong bitter taste. Easily hygroscopic. Freely soluble in water, slightly soluble in anhydrous alcohol, insoluble in ethe*. Specific rotation about +42.5º (c=2, in water). Low toxicity, LD50 (rat, oral) 1370mg/kg. irritant.
Sodium deoxycholate is a bile salt and is a white crystalline powder at room temperature. Sodium deoxycholate is a water-soluble, cholic acid-like anionic detergent that can effectively disrupt many protein interactions and is commonly used in protein-related experiments. It is commonly used as one of the components of cell lysates (e.g. RIPA). It is used in liposome preparation, extraction of membrane proteins and lipid compounds, cell nucleus separation, replacing ceruloplasmin in cholesterol flocculation tests and in affinity chromatography to elute or regenerate columns. It is also a cell culture medium additive. In addition, it increases the solubility of fats to facilitate their absorption in the intestine.
The Application & Function of Sodium deoxycholate
Sodium deoxycholate is an anionic surfactant that can effectively lyse cells and viruses and disrupt protein interactions, and is commonly used in the preparation of cell lysates and adipose tissue lysates. It is also used for the extraction of some proteins such as membrane proteins, nuclear proteins and lipoproteins.
Sodium deoxycholate can replace ceruloplasmin for cholesterol flocculation test, and can also be used for elution and regeneration of affinity chromatography columns and involved in the construction of liposomes.
Sodium deoxycholate is widely used as a pro-absorbent for mucosal and dermal drug delivery and as a carrier for some drugs.
Sodium deoxycholate is also often used as an additive to bacterial culture media for the identification and isolation of bacteria through differences in susceptibility to different bacteria, among other roles.
