The Introduction of Cefixime

Cefixime belongs to the third generation of oral cephalosporin antibiotics, which has a wide antibacterial spectrum and has a certain antibacterial effect on some gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Its mechanism is mainly by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell wall, which can play a bactericidal role. Dispersible tablets, on the other hand, are tablets that can be rapidly disintegrated and evenly dispersed in water, with the characteristics of easy to take, rapid disintegration, fast absorption and high bioavailability. Therefore, cefixime dispersible tablets are absorbed faster than capsule and tablet forms of cefixime.

Cefixime is white or light yellow crystalline powder, odorless or slightly odorless. Easily soluble in methanol or dimethyl sulfoxide, slightly soluble in aceton*, slightly insoluble in ethanol, hexane, ethyl acetate or water.

The mechanism of antibacterial action of cefixime is similar to other third-generation cephalosporins, which inhibit cell wall synthesis of bacterial dividing cells by binding to one or more penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are located on the plasma membrane of bacterial cells and may be catalytic enzymes at the end of bacterial cell wall synthesis. The action of this product results in the formation of a defective cell wall of bacteria that is unstable to osmotic pressure, thus acting as an antibacterial agent. Different strains have their own unique PBPs, and the different affinity of cefixime for different PBPs is the main factor affecting its antibacterial spectrum activity.

The Application & function of Cefixime

Cefixime is clinically used for the treatment of bacterial infectious diseases caused by Streptococcus spp. (except Enterococcus), Streptococcus pneumoniae, Gonococcus, Escherichia coli, Cataplasma branhamni, Serratia marcescens, Enterobacter citri, Enterobacter cloacae, Enterobacter aerogenes, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella spp., Serratia marcescens, Proteus spp. and Haemophilus influenzae, with the following indications:

1, respiratory system infections such as pneumonia, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, bronchiectasis (when infected), secondary infection of chronic respiratory infectious diseases, acute and chronic bronchitis, etc.

2, urinary and genital tract infections. Such as gonococcal urethritis, cervicitis, pyelonephritis, cystitis, gonorrhea, etc.

3, intra-abdominal infections (including cholecystitis, cholangitis, peritonitis).

4, scarlet fever, otitis media, paranasal sinusitis, etc.
