The Introductction

Pyrifen is a kind of insect growth regulator recently developed by Sumitomo Chemical Company in Japan, which can be used to control the pests of homoptera, Thysanoptera, diptera and lepidoptera. It has the characteristics of high efficiency, low dosage, long duration, crop safety, low toxicity to fish, and low impact on the ecological environment. It is a third-generation insecticide with development potential and has been registered in Japan, China and some European countries.

The Application & Function

The inhibitory effect of this product on insects is manifested in affecting the metamorphosis and reproduction of insects. Toxicological tests on the moth showed that the high concentration of pyrifen in hemolymph accelerated the secretion of prothymus sex hormone. On the other hand, because pyrifen can make insects lack the necessary stimulus factors to lay eggs, inhibit embryo development and egg hatching, or generate no viable eggs, so as to effectively control and achieve the purpose of pest control.

Pyrifen is a kind of juvenile hormone type chitin synthesis inhibitor, which has a strong ovicidal effect. It is a highly effective insecticide against sweet potato whitefly and scale insect. Placing female adult sweet potato whitefly on the leaves of cotton flowers treated with SPpm resulted in the production of non-viable eggs after 48 hours. When these females were transferred to untreated tablets, the drug remained in place for six days. The emergence of adult larvae was completely prevented by treating the 2nd instar larvae with 0.05-5.OOppm. The honeydew secreted by these larvae was at the same level during pre-population control, and a sharp decrease in honeydew fractiation was observed later. Pyrifen also has endosorption transfer activity, which can affect the larvae hidden on the back of the leaf. For mosquitoes and flies, the 4th instar larvae in the later stage is a more sensitive stage. Low dose of this product can induce death in pupation stage and inhibit the formation of adult worms. For example, 0.3ppm of this product applied to houseflies can inhibit pupa feathering by 10%. Its insecticidal activity is higher than that of enzoon vinegar and insect veins, and the lasting period is longer, up to more than one month. Pyrifen is mainly used to control mosquitoes, flies, falcine, fleas and other public health pests. In particular, its granules can be directly put into sewage ponds or evenly spread on the surface of mosquito and fly breeding ground, making it more convenient to use.
