The Introductction of Fipronil

 

Fipronil, chemically known as 5-amino-1-(2,6 dichloro-4-trifluorotoluene)-4-trifluoromethyl-sulfinylpyrazole-3-carbonitrile, is the first benzopyrazole used for pest control.Since its discovery in 1987, it has been widely used in many fields such as agriculture and veterinary, and has become an important species of insecticide.


Fipronil, trade name Regent, is a new type of benzopyrazole insecticide, which has the advantages of broad-spectrum and high efficiency compared with traditional insecticides (organophosphorus, pyrethroids and carbamates), and has been widely used in many agricultural fields, and it is a common insecticide used for pest control.

 

Fipronil pure product is white to off-white powder, m.p. 200.5~201℃, relative density 1.48~1.63, vapor pressure 3.73×10-7Pa(2.8×10-7Pa)(20℃). Solubility is: aceton* 54.6g/100mL, dichloromethane 2.23g/100mL, methanol 13.75g/100mL, hexane and toluene 0.3g/mL, water 1.9mg/L. Distribution coefficient (n-octanol/water) 4.0. Stable under normal storage conditions, half-life in water 135d, photolysis half-life in water 8h.

 

Fipronil mainly induces Cl-flow by blocking the nerve membrane Cl-channel controlled by γ-aminobutyric acid receptor, which causes extreme excitation of the nervous system and leads to the death of the insects, and achieves the effect of prevention and control of various economic pests.

 

The Application & Function of Fipronil

 

Fipronil is a broad-spectrum fluoropyrazole-containing insecticide with high activity and wide application range, showing high sensitivity to pests such as Hemiptera, Coleoptera, Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, etc. and pests resistant to pyrethroids and carbamate insecticides.


It can be used in rice, cotton, vegetables, soybean, rape, tobacco, potato, tea, sorghum, corn, fruit trees, forests, public health, animal husbandry, etc., to prevent and control rice stem borer, brown planthopper, rice weevil, cotton bollworms, stick insects, cabbage moths, cabbage greenworms, kale nightshade moths, beetles, cutworms, bulb nematodes, caterpillars, fruit tree mosquitoes, wheat aphid, coccidia, caterpillars, and so on. Recommended dosage 12.5-150g/h m2. The formulations are 5% gel suspension and 0.3% granule.
