Progesterone (C21H30O2) is the main bioactive progesterone secreted by ovary. Before ovulation, the amount of progesterone produced daily is 2-3 mg, mainly from the ovaries.
Function:
1.On the basis of estrogen effect, progesterone can promote the development of endometrium and glands, inhibit the contraction of uterine muscle, weaken the response of uterine muscle to oxytocin, and play the role of "antifetal".
2.Inhibit the secretion of luteinizing hormone in anterior pituitary gland through feedback mechanism, inhibit estrus and ovulation. Also can act together with estrogen, stimulate the development of mammary gland acini, for lactation preparation.
