The Introductction of Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate
Hydroxychloroquine sulfate is a white crystalline powder, soluble in water, almost insoluble in alcohol, chloroform and diethyl ethe*.
Hydroxychloroquine sulfate is an antimalarial drug that also has anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and anticoagulant effects.
Hydroxychloroquine sulfate has similar pharmacological effects, pharmacokinetics and in vivo metabolism as chloroquine. After oral administration, hydroxychloroquine is rapidly and almost completely absorbed.
Adverse effects
1. Retinal changes Retinal pigmentation changes and visual field defects may occur, but are rare. These lesions are reversible after early discontinuation of the product. If they develop further, there is a risk of exacerbation even after discontinuation of the product. Patients with retinopathy may be asymptomatic in the early stages or may have paracentral dark spots, pericentric annular defects, temporal defects and abnormal color vision.
2. Corneal changes have been reported including corneal edema and clouding, which may be asymptomatic or may cause symptoms such as halos, blurred vision, or photophobia.
These symptoms may be temporary or may reverse when the drug is discontinued. Blurred vision due to abnormal regulation is dose-dependent and may be reversible.
Precautions
1. Each dose should be taken with food or milk. Each dose should be taken with food or milk.
2. Hydroxychloroquine sulfate has a cumulative effect and takes several weeks to exert its beneficial effects, while minor adverse reactions may occur relatively early.
3. Treatment should be discontinued if there is no improvement in rheumatic diseases after 6 months of treatment. In photosensitive diseases, treatment should be given only with maximum exposure to sunlight.
4. All patients should undergo an ophthalmologic examination before initiating treatment with this product. It is contraindicated in patients with pre-existing ocular macular degeneration.
5. Serositis and psoriasis should be used with caution.
6. Hydroxychloroquine should be avoided in women during pregnancy.
7. Combination of hydroxychloroquine with other arrhythmogenic agents (e.g., amiodarone and moxifloxacin) may increase the risk of inducing ventricular arrhythmias.
The Application & Function of Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate
Hydroxychloroquine sulfate is used for the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammation and skin diseases.
Currently hydroxychloroquine is mainly used in the clinic for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile chronic arthritis, discoid lupus erythematosus and systemic lupus erythematosus, but the clinical effect is slow and often takes 2 to 4 months.
