The Introductction of Cefixime
Cefixime is white to light yellow crystalline powder, odorless or slightly special odor. It is soluble in methanol, slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in water or ethe*.
Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic for oral use and is indicated for the treatment of infections of the respiratory, urinary and biliary tracts caused by sensitive bacteria. Cefixime is highly stable to β-lactamase produced by gram-negative bacilli, and has a stronger antibacterial effect on gram-negative bacilli than the first and second generation cephalosporins, and a lesser antibacterial effect on gram-positive cocci than the first and second generation cephalosporins.
The Application & Function of Cefixime
Cefixime is available in tablets, capsules, dispersible tablets, dry suspension and granules.
Indications
Cefixime is used to treat the following infections caused by sensitive bacteria:
1. Respiratory system infections, such as bronchitis and pneumonia;
2. Urinary system infections, such as pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis, etc;
3. Biliary tract infections, such as cholecystitis, cholangitis;
4. Others, such as otitis media, sinusitis, scarlet fever, etc.
Clinical application
Cefixime is administered orally.
Dosage adjustment is required for patients with renal insufficiency. For creatinine clearance ≥60mL/min, use according to the normal dosage and dosing interval; for creatinine clearance between 21 and 60mL/min, give 75% of the normal dose according to the normal dosing interval; for creatinine clearance less than 20mL/min, give 50% of the normal dose according to the normal dosing interval.
