The Introductction of Vildagliptin
Vildagliptin, trade name Galvus, is an oral antidiabetic drug of the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor class used to treat type 2 diabetes. Vildagliptin is the only substance that inhibits glucagon both in high and low blood sugar.
Vildagliptin is a white crystalline powdered chemical. Chemical name (-)-(2S)-1-[[(3-hydroxytricyclo[3.3.1.1[3,7]]decan-1-yl)amino]acetyl]pyrrolidine-2-carbonitrile, molecular formula C17H25N3O2, molecular weight 303.39900, melting point 148~150℃.
The Application & Function of Vildagliptin
Vildagliptin is an oral antidiabetic, clinically used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is a potent and reversible specific competitive inhibitor of dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) with a half inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 2-3 nmol/L. Compared with other similar peptidases, it has a specific IC50 of 200 μmol/L for DPP-4 inhibition, which avoids immunologic, histopathologic, and gastrointestinal toxicity resulting from the inhibition of DPP-8 and DPP-9.
