The Introduction of lopinavir
Lopinavir, a protease inhibitor of HIV-1 and HIV-2. The mechanism of action is to block the division of gag-pol protein, leading to the production of immature and inactive viral particles. However, the combination of clinical and ritonavir formulations is used because ritonavir can inhibit CYP3A mediated lopinavir metabolism, thereby increasing the drug concentration of lopinavir in plasma. The combination of lopinavir, ritonavir, and other antiretroviral drugs is used to treat HIV-1 infection.
