The Application & Function
Niclosamide is an eel killing agent (Iampricide) and also a molluscide. It is a derivative of salicylamide, and its anti insect mechanism is to inhibit the oxidative phosphorylation process of mitochondria in the worm cells, reduce the production of energy substance ATP, and cause the degeneration of the scolex and adjacent segments of the tapeworm. The worm body detaches from the intestinal wall and is excreted from the body with feces. Invalid for insect eggs [1]. Dead segments are easily digested and decomposed by intestinal proteases, releasing insect eggs and posing a risk of cysticercosis. It also has a killing effect on snails and schistosoma japonicum cercariae. It can kill many types of snails, beef tapeworms (Taenia saginata), pork tapeworms (Taeniasolium), fish tapeworms, broad segmented tapeworms, short hymenoid tapeworms, and cercariae. In agriculture, it is mainly used to kill the Pomacea canaliculata (also known as the big bottle snail or apple snail) in rice fields. At the same time, in terms of public health prevention and control, it is used to kill snails (intermediate hosts of schistosomiasis). Chlorampheniol can rapidly undergo metabolic changes in water, with a short duration of action. It is also used in commercial fish culture to kill and remove unwanted fish before replacing the fish with fresh water Niclosamide is highly toxic to fish, but it only has a short half-life in water. After using this fish killing agent, new fish can be added in just a few days.
