The Introductction of Trimethylamine N-Oxide Dihydrate:

 

Trimethylamine N-oxide dihydrate is needle shaped transparent crystal. The melting point of the dihydrate is 93~95 ℃.


Trimethylamine N-oxide dihydrate can be dried by solvent method. Dissolve Trimethylamine N-oxide dihydrate in DMF, heat to bp, evaporate the solvent to dryness to obtain anhydrous Trimethylamine N-oxide.
White crystal of anhydrous Trimethylamine N-oxide, melting point 220~222 ℃, soluble in benzene and tetrahydrofuran. The solubility in anhydrous ethanol is greater than 0.5%.


Both Trimethylamine N-oxide dihydrate and anhydrous Trimethylamine N-oxide are prone to deliquescence, so they should be placed in a dry environment for airtight storage.

Trimethylamine N-oxide has the structure of Quaternary ammonium cation, has the characteristics of surfactant, can be used as the detergent auxiliary of laundry powder, has the characteristics of not hurting hands, and also has a certain bleaching effect. At present, it is widely used in foreign detergent formulations.


Weak oxidant:

As a weak oxidant, Trimethylamine N-oxide is used in chemical reactions for the synthesis of aldehydes, the oxidation of organic boranes, and the release of organic ligands from iron carbonyl compounds.
