The Introductction of Gamma-aminobutyric acid(GABA)

GABA (γ-aminobutyric acid, abbreviated as GABA), an amino acid, is widely found in vertebrates, plants and microorganisms.GABA is in the form of a white crystalline powder with no spin.  Melting point 195-204℃ (decomposition), miscible with water, slightly soluble in ethanol and aceton*, insoluble in benzene and ethe*, and loses water to produce pyrrolidone when decomposed.

 Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is an important central nervous system inhibitory neurotransmitter with good water solubility and heat stability. As a small molecular weight non-protein amino acid, GABA has been shown to be safe for consumption and can be used in the production of beverages and other foods. Studies have shown that the intake of certain amount of GABA has physiological effects such as improving sleep quality and lowering blood pressure.

The Application & Function of Gamma-aminobutyric acid(GABA)

It is safe to add GABA in food, and the use scope contains beverages, coffee, tea and chewing gum, but it is not allowed to add in baby food, meat products or products containing meat. Chinese Ministry of Health Notice No. 12, 2009, GABA intake should not exceed 500 mg/d, the use of beverages, cocoa products, chocolate and its beverages, candy, baked goods and puffed foods, but can not be added in baby food.
