The Introduction of Kanamycin
Kanamycin, an inhibitor of protein biosynthesis, causes misreading of mRNA code by binding with 30S ribosomes. If the bacteria produce an enzyme that destroys kanamycin, it can become a resistant strain. Kanamycin resistant plasmids are often used in molecular cloning as selection genes or marker genes.
It can be used for oral and intravenous injection, and is effective against multiple bacterial infections. It is isolated from Streptomyces kanamyceticus
The Application & Function of Kanamycin
Oral administration is used to treat intestinal infection caused by sensitive bacteria and to prepare for intestinal surgery. It also has the effect of reducing the production of ammonia by intestinal bacteria, and has a certain preventive effect on liver coma in patients with gastrointestinal hemorrhage due to cirrhosis.
Intramuscular injection is used for systemic infection caused by sensitive bacteria, such as pneumonia, septicemia, urinary tract infection, etc.
Kanamycin diluted to a certain concentration is sprayed on the cotton leaves, which can be used to identify whether it is Bt gene insect-resistant cotton. If the leaves turn yellow, they are not resistant to cotton bollworm, and if they do not change color, they are insect-resistant cotton
