The Application & Function
Mebendazole, an organic compound with chemical formula C16H13N3O3, is a broad-spectrum enterozoidal drug, which has significant effects on killing larvae and inhibiting egg development. Both in vivo and in vitro experiments have shown that it can directly inhibit the glucose intake of C. elegans, leading to glycogen depletion, and reduce the formation of adenosine triphosphate in the worm, so that it can not survive, but does not affect the blood glucose level in human body. Ultrastructural observation showed that the microtubules in the membrane cells and intestinal cytoplasm were denaturated, resulting in the aggregation of secretory particles in Golgi, transport blockage, cytoplasmic dissolution and absorption, complete cell denaturation, and death of the body.
It is used for the treatment of needle worm disease, ascariasis, whipworm disease, hookworm disease, fecal iron worm disease, tapeworm disease, echinococcosis, and trichinellosis.
