The Introduction of Lomefloxacin Hydrochloride

Lomefloxacin hydrochloride is the hydrochloride form of lomefloxacin. Lomefloxacin is a bactericidal fluoroquinolone with activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Lomefloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA pro-rotase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, which are required for transcription and replication of bacterial DNA.


Lomefloxacin hydrochloride can be used to treat a variety of infections in the respiratory tract, urinary tract, obstetrics, gynecology, joints, skin, oral cavity, ear, nose, throat, and eye infections. Compared with other quinolone antibacterial drugs, lomefloxacin has the advantages of easy administration and no need to adjust theophylline dose.


Lomefloxacin hydrochloride has a wide antibacterial spectrum, long duration of action, strong antibacterial effect and good clinical efficacy. The inhibitory effect on drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli is 1 to 2 times that of of ofloxacin and 2 to 4 times that of norfloxacin. In vitro study shows that the antibacterial efficacy of lomefloxacin hydrochloride against gram-positive bacteria is stronger than that of enrofloxacin and similar to that of norfloxacin; the antibacterial efficacy against gram-negative bacteria is weaker than that of norfloxacin and ofloxacin and similar to that of enrofloxacin, but the anti-infective effect in vivo is stronger than that of the above drugs.

Lomefloxacin hydrochloride is mainly used for the clinical treatment of acute and chronic infectious diseases caused by various gram-positive and negative bacteria.


At present, lomefloxacin hydrochloride has been widely used in the treatment of acute attacks of chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis infection, acute bronchitis, pneumonia and other respiratory diseases caused by sensitive strains of bacteria, as well as acute pyelonephrosis, complicated urinary tract infection, acute attacks of chronic urinary carrier infection, acute prostatitis, simple gonorrhea and other urinary system infections and abdominal, biliary and intestinal infections.


Lomefloxacin hydrochloride is also used for typhoid fever, bacterial infectious diseases of the soft tissues of the skin, such as folliculitis, impetigo, boils, traumatic infections and secondary infections of eczema, secondary infections of tinea pedis, etc., paranasal sinusitis, otitis media, ophthalmoplegia, etc.
