Tadalafil is a selective reversible inhibitor of cyclic guanosine phosphate (cGMP) specific phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5). When sexual stimulation results in the local release of nitric oxide, PDE5 is inhibited by thaldalafil, raising the level of cGMP in the penis sponge, which leads to relaxation of smooth muscle and blood flow into the penis tissue, producing an erection, such as asexual stimulation.
