The Introductction of Sulfamethoxazole
Sulfamethoxazole, also known as Synthroid, is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent with particularly strong effects on Staphylococcus and Escherichia coli, and is used to treat urinary tract infections as well as avian cholera. Sulfamethoxazole is a medium-acting sulfa drug for systemic application, which can act competitively with PABA on dihydrofolate synthase in bacteria to prevent the synthesis of dihydrofolate in bacteria, thus inhibiting the growth and reproduction of bacteria. With sulfadiazine, sulfisoxazole, trisulfadiazine three sulfonamides are currently better drugs for the treatment of nocardia. Half-life of 10-12 hours, can be partially acetylated.
Sulfamethoxazole is a white crystalline powder, odorless and slightly bitter in taste. Melting point 168℃. Very slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in dilute acid, dilute alkali solution or ammonia.
Sulfamethoxazole has wide antibacterial spectrum and fast absorption. Strong antibacterial effect, antibacterial effect on most gram-positive and negative bacteria, the bacteria produce resistance to this product slowly.
