Dextromethorphan hydrobromide is an antitussive drug.
Function:
This product is a dextromorphine isomer of L-moran methyl ether. It exerts a central antitussive effect by inhibiting the cough center of the medulla oblongatum. Its antitussive strength is comparable to codeine or slightly stronger. No analgesic effect, long-term application did not show tolerance and addiction. The therapeutic dose does not inhibit respiration. Oral absorption, 15~30 minutes to take effect, the effect can maintain 3~6 hours. The plasma concentration of the protodrug is very low and the plasma concentration of its main active metabolite, 3-methomorphane, is high at 5 h t1/2. Mainly used for dry cough, suitable for cold, acute or chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, pharyngitis, tuberculosis and other upper respiratory tract infection cough.
