The Introductction of Piroxicam
Piroxicam is off-white or slightly yellow-green crystalline powder, odorless and tasteless. Almost insoluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol or ethe*, easily soluble in chloroform, slightly soluble in aceton*, soluble in acid.
Piroxicam is a long-acting non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesic and antipyretic drug with analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects. Piroxicam exerts its pharmacological effects by inhibiting cyclooxygenase, reducing the synthesis of local prostaglandins in tissues and inhibiting the chemotaxis of leukocytes and the release of lysosomal enzymes. Tmax3~5h. T1/2 is 30~86h, PPB is more than 90%, T1/2 is prolonged in patients with renal insufficiency, mainly metabolized by the liver. Due to the long T1/2, a single dose can maintain a relatively stable blood concentration for 24h, and multiple doses can easily lead to accumulation. The effective blood concentration is 1.5~2μg/ml. stable blood concentration can be reached only 7~12d after starting treatment. 66% is excreted from kidney, 33% is excreted from feces, and <5% is in its original form.
The Application & Function of Piroxicam
Piroxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug with antipyretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
Piroxicam is indicated for rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute muscular human bone injury and acute gout.
Piroxicam in the treatment of rheumatic and rheumatoid arthritis, has a more obvious analgesic, anti-inflammatory and certain anti-clock effect, its effect is slightly stronger than indomethacin.
