The description of Florfenicol
Florfenicol is a new type of broad-spectrum antibiotics of chloramphenicol for veterinary use, which was successfully developed in the late 1980's. It can also be recalled that thiamphenicol has the chemical formula C12H14Cl2FNO4S. CH3SO4 replaced the -NO2 group of chloramphenicol and gave florfenicol an obvious advantage in safety and efficacy compared with chloramphenicol. The antimicrobial spectrum of florfenicol is extremely wide. It has an inhibitory effect not only on the majority of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, as well as part of chlamydia and rickettsia, but also on chloramphenicol-resistant bacteria (Sams, 1995; Fang et al., 2020). Thus, florfenicol has been applied gradually across the world since it was launched in Japan in 1990. It is widely used in veterinary clinics, as a veterinary drug and feed additive, for its good therapeutic efficacy to bacterial diseases of pigs, cattle, poultry, and fish.
