The Introductction of Oxytetracycline hydrochloride
Doxycycline hydrochloride is a tetracycline antibiotic.
Doxycycline hydrochloride is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent, many rickettsiae, mycoplasma, chlamydia, spirochetes, amoeba and some malaria parasites are also sensitive to this product. Alias: Dicyclomycin, oxytetracycline. It is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent, many rickettsiae, mycoplasma, chlamydia, spirochetes, amoeba and some malaria parasites are also sensitive to this product. Enterococcus spp. are resistant to it. Other genera such as Actinomyces, Bacillus anthracis, Listeria monocytogenes, Clostridium, Nucleus, Vibrio, Brucella, Campylobacter, Yersinia, etc. are sensitive to this product.
Oxytetracycline hydrochloride is yellow crystalline powder; odorless, moisture-attracting; darkens in daylight, easily destroyed in alkali solution. It is easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in methanol or ethanol, insoluble in ether.
Oxytetracycline hydrochloride is used as an elective agent for (1) rickettsial diseases, including epidemic typhus, endemic typhus, Rocky Mountain fever, scrub typhus and Q fever. (2) Mycoplasma spp. infections. (3) Chlamydia spp. infections, including parrot fever, venereal disease, lymphogranuloma, nonspecific urethritis, tuberculosis, cervicitis, and trachoma. (4) Regression fever. (5) Brucellosis. (6) Cholera. (7) Rabbit fever. (8) Plague. (9) Soft chancre.
The treatment of brucellosis and plague needs to be combined with aminoglycosides.
Due to the serious resistance of common pathogenic bacteria to hygromycin hydrochloride, it can be used as the drug of choice only when the pathogenic bacteria are sensitive to this product; Escherichia coli, Enterobacter aerogenes, Fusobacterium loxodes, Shigella spp., Haemophilus influenzae (limited to respiratory tract infections) and Klebsiella spp. (limited to respiratory and urinary tract infections) and other gram-negative bacillus infections that are sensitive to hygromycin hydrochloride.
Oxytetracycline hydrochloride should not be used for any type of staphylococcal or hemolytic streptococcal infections.
Oxytetracycline hydrochloride may be used in patients with tetanus, gas gangrene, yaws, syphilis, gonorrhea and leptospirosis, as well as Actinomyces spp. and Listeria monocytogenes infections who are allergic to penicillins.
Oxytetracycline hydrochloride may be used as an adjunctive therapy in patients with acute intestinal amebiasis and moderate to severe acne.
