The Introductction of Povidone iodine
Povidone iodine is an unstable complex made of surfactant and iodine, which is a topical disinfectant of iodophor type.
The homopolymer of 1-vinyl-2-arsenic alkyl ketone in povidone iodine is a surfactant, which helps the solution to wet and penetrate the object, thus enhancing the bactericidal effect of iodine.
Povidone iodine has 80-90% of the bound iodine that can be depolymerized into free iodine, which is highly concentrated, bactericidal, tasteless, non-irritating, non-sensitizing and low toxicity.
Povidone iodine is a broad-spectrum fungicide that can kill viruses, bacteria, spores, fungi and protozoa. It can kill the propagation of various bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) within 1 minute at a concentration of 15ppm, it takes longer time to kill Mycobacterium tuberculosis, 1.5 hours to kill fungi (Bacillus subtilis), and it takes higher concentration and longer time to kill black variant bacillus and Mycobacterium wax-like bacillus bacillus; it can destroy the surface antigen of hepatitis B (HBsAg) within 10 minutes at a concentration.
