The Introductction of Xylazine Hydrochloride

Xylazine HCl is an alpha2-adrenergic receptor agonist used as a tranquilizer and muscle relaxant.

Xylazine Hydrochloride is a sedative veterinary drug. It can cause mild inhibition of the central nervous system, weakening the functional activities, so as to eliminate restlessness and restoration of quiet class of drugs. In recent years, individual livestock breeders driven by economic interests, unauthorized in the process of raising livestock and poultry to add such drugs to play a sedative hypnotic, weight gain and fattening, shorten the role of slaughter time; in addition, in the process of animal transportation, in order to reduce animal death and weight loss, to prevent the reduction of meat quality, also often use such drugs to reduce the loss of stress.

Xylazine Hydrochloride in vivo study

Xylazine (5.2 mg/kg; intraperitoneal injection; for 10-60 minutes; male Sprague-Dawley rats) administration alters mRNA expression and protein phosphorylation levels of AMPK signaling molecules, suggesting that the LKB1-AMPK pathway plays a role in the sedative and tranquilizing effects in the CNS caused by Xylazine treatment.
