The Introductction of Chlorhexidine :
It is positively charged and adsorbed on the negatively charged plaque and oral mucosa surface during oral gargle, and then the adsorbed drug diffuses from these parts and gradually precipitates to produce a lasting effect until the concentration in saliva decreases after 24 hours. It is adsorbed on the osmotic barrier of bacterial cytoplasmic membrane, so that the cell contents leak out. It has bacteriostatic effect at low concentration and bactericidal effect at high concentration. Effective even in the presence of serum, blood, etc. Ineffective against spores, acid-fast bacilli, fungi and viruses. It is clinically used for washing hands, soaking hands, and skin disinfection in the surgical area before surgery; oral and throat infections, wound flushing, instrument disinfection, ward or operating room and other environmental disinfection. Cream or ointment for infant eczema, small burns, scalds and impetigo; powder for prickly heat, erythematous eczema dermatitis. Coating film for minor burns and scalds.
The Application & Function of Chlorhexidine :
Chlorhexidine is a surfactant, which has strong bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects. Its principle of action is to destroy the osmotic barrier on the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane. When the concentration is low, the cytoplasm is partially leaked, which has a bacteriostatic effect. It can coagulate and degenerate the cytoplasm and play a bactericidal effect. Its advantages are that the irritation is lower than other topical antibacterial agents, and allergic reactions rarely occur. It can be used as an adjuvant therapy for periodontitis, gingivitis, angina and various vaginitis in oral mucosal gargle and vaginal medication.
1) In cosmetics and personal care products, Chlorhexidine and its salts (Chlorohexidine Dihydrochloride, Chlorhexidine
Digluconate, Chlorhexidine Diacetate) are used in the formulation of eye makeup, makeup foundations, mouthwashes, hair dyes and bleaches, and other skin care and hair care products;
2) Chlorhexidine has been used in medical practice and these ingredients, particularly the Digluconate salt, have extensive use in dentistry because they inhibit plaque formation;
3) Chlorhexidine is used as a topical antiseptic skin scrub in hospital and household settings;
4) For use in animals, it is used as a topical disinfectant of wounds.
